After returning from the events of Dissidia, Kain found himself in the middle of war... yet again. It seemed the conflict had come along with him, several manikins following him home mistakenly. Many warriors became involved in the battle that ensued. Many of their lives were lost... including Kain's. Already beaten and battered from the previous experience, it didn't take much for Kain to fall on that battlefield. He died fighting for his homeland, without ever again truly reaching it.
When the battle ended, with peace restored, the Elements came to claim their own. Kain's spirit stubbornly clung to his dead body, requiring a great deal of persuasion from Valvalis to leave it. Because he was not yet ready to join her in the wind... he was sent instead to be reborn into a new life. His soul was sent away where it eventually became that of a dragon...
Some while later, that baby dragon hatched. His mother named him Lancet. He initially dreamed of Kain's life, but was unable to truly comprehend what any of it meant. Nor would he remember those dreams from a time when he was newly hatched. As time went on and he relearned the basics of communication and so on, the dragon grew disconnected from that old life. He knew nothing but this life. He always held a fascination with the legends of the dragoons, interested by the bond they made with humans. His favorite legend was one who had died some while before he was born... none other than the hero Sir Kain.
Valvalis returned when Lancet was a month old to give him his duty... to protect Ceodore, the child of Cecil and Rosa...
